1971 to 1990's: Alexandra Hospital as a government body
In 1971, the British Military Hospital was handed over to the Government of Singapore with a token sum of $1. It was renamed Alexandra Hospital and was officially opened to the public in September the same year.Over time, patient volume took a dip as new and restructured hospitals began sprouting up.There was then a need for Alexandra Hospital to restructure itself for the new millenium.

2000: A New Beginning
Alexandra Hospital was restructured on 1st October 2000 and became a member of the National Healthcare Group.After a major restructuring in October 2000, its facilities and services have been upgraded to serve patients better. 2004: Towards A Hassle-Free And Patient Centred Hospital

Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan announced the building of a regional hospital in Yishun to better serve residents from the Northern region of Singapore. Spanning over 3.4 hectares, the 550-bed hospital will offer a comprehensive range of medical and healthcare services. this hospital will be run by the existing team running Alexandra Hospital and will continue to be led by Mr Liak Teng Lit, Chief Executive Officer."I challenged AH to build a hassle free and patient centred hospital"

May 2007: New Hospital Gets A Name Health Minister announced the name for the new hospital in Yishun - Khoo Teck Puat Hospital(KTPH) - in acknowledgement of pledged donation from the estate of the late Tan Sri Khoo Teck Puat.

October 2007: Board of Directors For New Hospital
A Board of Directors, chaired by Ms Jennie Chua, has been appointed to guide the strategic direction of Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. The Board of Directors will ensure that the hospital will be managed well with strong corporate governance to achieve financial sustainability, service excellence, and an active programme of development and innovation so that it can deliver its mission to be a hassle-free and patient-centric hospital.MOH is pleased that Ms Mavis Khoo, representing the Khoo Teck Puat Foundation, has agreed to serve as a member of the Board.

April 2008: Alexandra Hospital became independent

Alexandra Hospital embarks on a new journey under a new entity known as Alexandra Health.
With the restructuring, Ministry of Health Holdings now has Alexandra Health, presently comprising Alexandra Hospital and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH), under its purview. A Board of Directors comprising captains of industry from mainly non-healthcare sectors such as hospitality, technology and finance, assumes its responsibility for AH/KTPH.
